The Best Way To Get Out Of A Creative Rut

We all get in a rut sometimes. Especially as musicians, we tend to have an inconsistent flow of creativity.

But sometimes you want to channel it at a specific time – you don’t want to wait for the drought to end, you just want to create!

There’s all sorts of reasons why you might have “writer’s block”, but there’s a single solution to the problem that works every time.

Just do it. That’s the solution.

That sounds crazy, but it really works. Here’s how you do it.

Start out by identifying what you are having trouble doing. Maybe it’s producing a song. Maybe it’s writing the lyrics. Whatever it is, write it down.

Then, just do that thing. Set a time limit and force yourself to do it. It doesn’t have to be a masterpiece, it just has to be something.

For me, if I feel like I have no ideas for producing a track, I’ll tell myself to finish an entire song in an hour. The result is never anything good, but I have proven to myself that I can do it, which is half the battle.

Also, we all have bad ideas. It’s normal. But those bad ideas can be blocking the really good stuff underneath. The only way to clear the path is to get the bad stuff out of your system.

So try this method out. I know you’ll be glad you did and back to creating great music in short order!
